Karawang,.Dianpos.Online.| Today (5-11–2025) A coalition of community organizations (ormas) in Karawang Regency attended an audience meeting at the Karawang Regional Secretariat Office to discuss issues related to the Rural and Urban Land and Building Tax (PBB-P2). The meeting, attended by representatives from various community organizations and government officials, including the Head of the DPRD, Bapenda, Kesbangpol Office, and PUPR Department, focused on the mechanism of tax collection and utilization, particularly transparency, revenue sharing, and its impact on local communities.
The community organizations expressed their aspirations and concerns regarding the tax policy, while the Regional Secretariat welcomed the input and assured that the government is committed to improving the tax management system in a transparent and accountable manner. The meeting concluded with an agreement to strengthen communication and find solutions that balance regional revenue optimization with community interests.
The meeting was held ahead of a planned peaceful protest by around 1,000 people at the PUPR office, Bupati's office, and
Karawang, District Attorney's Office. The community organizations criticized the government's policy on PBB-P2, which saw a significant increase of 400% to 620% in some areas.
In response, Regional Secretary Asep Aang Rahmatullah explained that the increase in PBB-P2 in 2022 was due to a long-overdue evaluation after nine years without adjustments. He emphasized that the government is committed to ensuring that the public services and needs are met without burdening the community with additional taxes, as conveyed by the Bupati.
